CLEANING AND CARE GUIDE

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

To keep your cowhide rug looking beautiful for years to come, here are some essential care tips:

Spill on a cowhide

1. Regular Vacuuming: Gently vacuum in the direction of the hair to remove loose dirt and dust. Use a soft brush attachment to prevent any damage to the natural hair.

2. Spot Cleaning: Act promptly in the event of spills or stains. Blot the affected area with a clean, damp cloth or sponge. Avoid rubbing, as it may push the stain deeper into the hair. Use a mild soap if necessary, but always test a small area first.

3. Avoid Sun Exposure: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause fading and damage. Keep your rug in a shaded area or use curtains/blinds to protect it from harsh sunlight.

4. Rotate Periodically: Rotate your cowhide rug periodically to ensure even wear. We recommend every three months. This helps maintain its natural beauty and prevents excessive wear in specific areas.

5. Avoid Moisture: Cowhide rugs are sensitive to moisture. Keep them away from damp areas and be cautious when cleaning to prevent over-wetting.

6. Brushing: Occasionally brush the rug in the direction of the hair with a soft brush to maintain its softness and shine.

7. Protect from Pets: If you have pets, be mindful of their claws, as they can potentially damage the rug.

  • Trim your pets' nails regularly to minimize the risk of scratches.

  •
If your pet has an accident on your cowhide rug, blot up the mess and clean it with a mild soap and water solution, taking care not to soak the rug. Sprinkle baking soda generously over the area to deodorize, let it sit for 24 hours, then vacuum thoroughly.

Curl, Creases & Folds

The best way to get rid of curling or any creases is the following:

1. Lay your hide on a smooth heatproof surface.

It's important to set up your workspace properly. Choose a surface that is smooth and heatproof, such as an ironing board or a sturdy table covered with a heat-resistant cloth or mat.

2. Heat your Iron on a normal cotton temperature.

Next, prepare your iron for use by setting it to a normal cotton temperature. This temperature setting is typically suitable for most fabrics and materials, including hides. Allow the iron to heat up fully before proceeding to ensure optimal results.

3. Place a slightly damp neutral color towel on the crease.

Take a clean, neutral-colored towel and dampen it slightly with water. The towel should be damp but not dripping wet, as excessive moisture can saturate the hide and cause damage. The neutral color of the towel helps prevent any potential color transfer onto the hide during the process.

4. Use your Iron to work out the crease by placing the Iron onto the damp towel and working in the direction of the hair and smooth out the crease.

Place the damp towel over the creased area of the hide and begin to smooth out the crease using the iron. Position the iron directly onto the damp towel, making sure it covers the crease. Apply gentle pressure and move the iron in the direction of the hair on the hide.

5. Avoid using excessive force or pressing too hard, as this can damage the hide or cause it to become distorted.

Continue to work the iron over the creased area until the crease is smoothed out to your satisfaction. Once the crease is fully smoothed out, remove the damp towel and allow the hide to cool and dry completely before handling or storing it.

Moving and Storage

To transport or store, roll the hide lengthwise, ensuring that the base of the hide is on the inside, and store it in a cool temperature-controlled place.
